TRIO Student Support Services

TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS) is a college retention and degree completion program centered on academic, personal, social, and career support for under-resourced college students. We specialize in academic coaching, tutoring, and academic counseling.

The TRIO Student Support Services program is federally funded to serve 175 students each year.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements for TRIO Student Support Services are determined by federal guidelines and regulations. All applicants must be enrolled at Central Piedmont Community College in a degree or certificate program. You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States and meet residency requirements for Federal student aid.

You must also meet one or more of the following criteria:

— be a first-generation college student (meaning neither parent has completed a four-year college degree).

— be income eligible as defined by federal income guidelines. Learn more about the income guidelines as outlined by the Department of Education TRIO income eligibility criteria.

— have a documented disability on file with the Office of Disability and Access Services. You must present your accommodation plan as proof of disability.

To apply for TRIO Student Support Services, you should have an academic need, plan to graduate from Central Piedmont, and be in good academic standing. If you hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, you are not eligible to participate in the program.

Be sure to enter your exact Central Piedmont email address in the application, e.g., userID@email.cpcc.edu. After you submit your application, check your Central Piedmont email for an application submitted confirmation email. We will review your application to confirm your eligibility. After review, students may receive an email requesting additional information or an invitation to attend New Participant Orientation.

Services for TRIO Students

TRIO Student Support Services offers additional services to our students to aid you in your progress towards completion and transferring. Following are services provided to TRIO SSS students.

Tutoring Services

TRIO SSS offers individualized tutoring services that help you develop independent learning skills, better understand your learning and the learning processes, and respect your individual differences.

Success Coaching Services

TRIO SSS offers individualized coaching services designed to provide academic and non-cognitive development services for you as a TRIO SSS student to address your needs.

Transfer Assistance

If you want to transfer to a four year college or university, TRIO SSS will help you research transfer options and programs, help with application completion, and provide tours to colleges and universities.

Financial Literacy Development

TRIO SSS offers our students opportunities to build or enhance financial knowledge to help increase your chances of financial stability. We provide workshops centered around savings and budgeting, credit and debit, FAFSA, and more.

Cultural and Social Activities

TRIO SSS offers opportunities for you to take part in cultural enrichment and team building activities to help you thrive and enhance your the college experience. Often, these activities take place off and on campus in a group setting.

Other Benefits

In addition to these services, TRIO SSS offers you other benefits, such as:

— TEAS testing preparation materials for health science majors;

— supplemental grant aid (availability based on funding;

— calculator loan program, and more.

TRIO SSS Events

Scroll through the carousel to check out some of the recent events and trips held for TRIO SSS students: (1) TRIO SSS Peer Mentors hosted "Brunch N' Paint" for participants and staff; (2) TRIO SSS Peer Mentors hosted "Meet the Peer Mentors" for participants and provided free donuts; (3) TRIO SSS students attended "Self-Love is the Best Love" workshop and created positive affirmation jars; (4) TRIO SSS took a cultural tour of Washington, DC, including a college tour of Howard University; and (5) TRIO SSS students toured the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to learn more about transfer options and to see the beautiful campus.
