Reverse Transfer

Reverse transfer is when you are awarded an associate degree for completing part of your degree requirements at Central Piedmont and part of your requirements at a participating university in North Carolina.

When combined, your credits completed at Central Piedmont plus your eligible credits transferred from your university meet the degree and graduation requirements at Central Piedmont.

Eligibility

  • You must have completed/earned at least 30 percent (21 college-level credit hours) at Central Piedmont.
  • Your associate degree depends on the credits earned at the university; your credits will be evaluated to see if your combined credits meet the degree and graduation requirements.
  • The State of North Carolina and participating universities send us data twice a year (in approximately February and July). We will evaluate your earned credits for the possibility of awarding the associate’s degree until you have earned a total of 90 credits. Your information may be sent to us multiple times for evaluation. We may contact you for additional information.
  • You have to "opt-in" to participate if eligible.

How Reverse Transfer Works

If eligible, you will be asked to participate when you transfer to one of the participating universities. Check your university emails on how to "opt-in" to the reverse transfer program. You must “opt in,” or check with a counselor for additional instructions if you do not receive the opt-in email. The CWID/Reverse Transfer program has different requirements. In order for these to apply, you must first enroll at the university.

  • After you have given permission for the university to send your records to us, you need to update your MyCollege credentials so that you can access your Central Piedmont email account.
  • The university will send your records to us after you have earned at least 60 credits.
  • We will download your data, evaluate your transcripts, pull in the appropriate courses, and certify if you are eligible.
  • In approximately six to eight weeks, you will receive an email in your Central Piedmont email account and in your university account (if it was supplied to Central Piedmont). If you are eligible, you will receive a degree order form. You will receive an invitation to participate in the following May's graduation ceremony in March or April.
  • If you are not eligible, the College Foundation of North Carolina or the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) will email you to notify you.
