Paramedic Academy Outcome Data

Paramedic Program Overview

On January 9, 2010, 29 students enrolled in Mecklenburg County's first community college paramedic program in over a decade, marking the beginning of a transformative partnership between Central Piedmont Community College and the Carolinas Medical Center’s Center for Prehospital Medicine (CPM). This collaboration established a rigorous and comprehensive paramedic training program designed to meet the evolving needs of the EMS profession.

The Central Piedmont/CPM paramedic program spans five semesters and requires students to complete 1,096 hours of coursework, practical training, and clinical experience. This structure ensures students gain a thorough understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of emergency medical care. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for both the North Carolina Office of EMS paramedic certification exam and the National Registry paramedic exam.

Graduates of this program are fully prepared to enter the workforce in the field of prehospital emergency medical care. Whether seeking to work in advanced life support systems, critical care transport, or community paramedicine roles, students leave the program equipped with the knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary to succeed in their chosen careers.

Goals Statement

To prepare competent entry-level paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.

Accreditation

The Central Piedmont Community College/Carolinas Medical Center Consortium is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
