49erNext Eligibility Requirements
49erNext is a guaranteed admission program for select community college students who plan to transfer to UNC Charlotte to pursue a bachelor’s degree. To be considered for 49erNext at Central Piedmont, students must meet eligibility requirements to be considered for the 49erNext program, to remain in the 49erNext Program, and to transfer to UNC Charlotte as a 49erNext student.
Requirements to be considered for the 49erNext program
- Attend a community college that participates in the 49erNext program
- Earned a high school diploma, or equivalent
- Be pursuing an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Engineering, Associate in Fine Arts*, Associate in Arts - Teacher Prep*, or Associate in Science - Teacher Prep* or eligible Associate in Applied Science*
- Earned 15 or fewer credit hours at the community college where they intend to enroll in the program, with no prior transfer credits
- Have at least a 2.0 grade point average (GPA)
- Intend to pursue a major offered at UNC Charlotte, with the exception of architecture, fine or performing arts, graphic design, and nursing
*Eligible Associate in Applied Science degrees include the following: Full Stack Programming, Data Analytics, and Software Development
*UNC Charlotte recognizes these degrees as transferable associate degrees and will award a general education waiver for most of them. Please consult with your community college academic advisor to determine the best associate degree fit for the most streamlined path to Charlotte.
*Cumulative 2.0 GPA requirement for acceptance into 49erNext does not apply to new, incoming students or GPA earned while dual-enrolled at the college.
In the 49erNext Program
Once accepted, students will remain enrolled within 49erNext through the completion of their associate degree at their participating community college. Failure to meet the below requirements may result in removal from the 49erNext program in the case of:
- A cumulative GPA is below 2.0 after consecutive two semesters
- Inactive enrollment at the college
- Not progressing within approved transferable associate degree
To transfer to UNC Charlotte as a 49erNext student
- Completion of an eligible Associate’s degree
- Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of a 2.0
- Complete UNC Charlotte admissions application, and send all required transcripts and documentation by corresponding deadline
- Attend UNC Charlotte orientation
Applications for Fall 2024 are now closed and will reopen March 2025.
