3.02 Academic Advisement Policy

I. Policy

A comprehensive system of academic advising for all students is a required step in the registration process. The primary responsibility for advisement of new students and continuing students rests with professional staff advisors in the Academic Advising Department. Some instructional divisions may participate in the advisement system and will develop advisement plans in coordination with the Academic Advising Department.

II. Guidelines for Academic Advisement

A. Academic advisement is an expectation of designated staff and faculty. Specific responsibilities are assigned by the Director of Advising and the academic associate deans. To meet that expectation and serve students effectively, all employees serving in an advising role should access College-provided training opportunities to assist them in this important responsibility.

B. Students will receive individualized pathway or program plans that outline the required courses they need to take for program or goal completion.

C. Students should meet with their designated advisor prior to registering for each semester.
