4.18 Included Course Materials Policy
Central Piedmont Community College offers a comprehensive set of resources as student learning tools, including digital and printed course materials.
I. Definition
Included course materials is a program for curriculum courses that provides digital textbooks, courseware, or other printed materials as an additional fee.
II. Rule
When students register for curriculum courses, Central Piedmont automatically adds the cost of the included course materials as a charge on their student accounts.
A. In accordance with the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations 34 CFR § 668.164(c)(2), students may opt out of the automatic charge associated with included course materials and instead independently obtain the materials from a third-party retailer. Students can exercise their right to opt out prior to the 10% point of the session. To opt out, students must follow the process noted in the college’s procedure manual.
Students who opt out on or before the 10% point of the session will have a credit for the fee placed on their student account. After the 10% point of the session, students can no longer opt out and a credit will not be issued.
B. The opt out provision does not apply when the included course materials are not available elsewhere or accessible by students enrolled in that program from sources other than those provided or authorized by the institution, as per the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations 34 CFR § 668.164(c)(2).
