Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Insurance Careers Program and Scholarship

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Insurance Production program provides scholarship assistance, instruction, and career counseling to those interested in taking Continuing Education classes to begin or enhance a career in the insurance production industry.

About the Program

Program Benefits

  • scholarship assistance to cover:

    – course tuition and materials

    – fees for North Carolina Department of Insurance (NC DOI), state exam, and Working Smart development components

    Terms of the award will be determined on a course-by-course basis within the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). The sponsored student program will process the amount to be credited to the student's business office account for all related tuition and fees.

Required Courses

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Insurance Careers Program and Scholarship consists of the following required insurance pre-licensing courses:

  • Life Insurance Agent

  • Accident, Sickness, and Health Insurance Agent 

  • Medicare Supplement and Long-Term Care Insurance Agent

  • exam prep

  • Working Smart: Essential Skills for Workplace Success and Career Development

Qualifications

You must:

  • have a high school diploma or GED

  • complete the scholarship application, including a short essay on career goals and explain how the scholarship will benefit you (250-word maximum)

  • meet one of the following:

    – bilingual

    – worker displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic

    – person in transition: leaving high school or college, or looking to make a career change

    – demonstrated a commitment to diversity

Additional Details

Selection and award decisions will be made by a committee of Central Piedmont Financial Services Institute faculty, staff, and/or advisory board members.

  • All decisions are final.

  • Scholarship recipients are not obligated to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

  • Scholarship recipients are free to accept employment at other financial institutions and insurance organizations.
