Middle College High Schools (MCHS) are CMS Cooperative Innovative High Schools available on Central Piedmont's Cato, Levine, Harper, and Merancas campuses. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) students can enroll in middle colleges to earn college credits and complete their high school classes simultaneously.
Middle College programs offer accelerated learning opportunities that allow students to take college courses while completing their high school graduation requirements. Students can complete an associate degree or earn up to two years of transferable college credit tuition free.
The costs of tuition and books are covered by CMS. Given the rigor of completing both the high school diploma and the associate degree or two years of college credit, students have an additional year (i.e., grade 13) to graduate if needed.
The program serves high school students in grades 11-13 and is limited to 100 students per grade level per campus each year. Students enrolled in a MCHS will take courses required for high school graduation while also taking college courses towards a post-secondary certificate, college transfer, associate degree, and/or industry certification.
Middle College students have access to all Central Piedmont student amenities such as labs, libraries, and activities. You may graduate from the Middle College high school at the end of the 12th grade as long as your high school requirements are met.
I wanted to save money while getting a jump on my college education. Attending Central Piedmont’s middle college high school helped me accomplish both of those goals.
