Get on-demand, rapid, personalized technology training for general and specialized software. We also encourage community members to take advantage of our services to help you get ready for college, enhance your career opportunities, or for general personal benefit.

Digital Technology Skills Training and Support Services to Help You

We can help you with your immediate technology training needs, assess your skills, and provide you with assistance that works with your schedule and particular needs. Or you can take a voluntary online self-assessment on your own to find out what your needs are. Make an appointment with the Digital Literacy Learning Space for individualized digital technology skills training and one-on-one support. Walk-ins are welcome but remember, other students may have scheduled that time to work with us. The following are examples of digital technology skills you can work on with the Digital Literacy Learning Space.

  • Basic Computer Skills

    If you are unfamiliar or do not feel confident with basic computer skills, make an appointment and let's talk. During the conversation we may ask that you take the Northstar Online Basic Skills Assessment. This private assessment will allow us to craft lessons for the technology skills you need to be successful in your classes.

  • Basic Computer Lab Software

    Get help with Word processing and other essential software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Documents and other Google apps; and Adobe Creative Cloud. We can also help you with file conversions, Portable Document File (PDF) creations, and file types: e.g.,.DOC, PPT, XLS, JPG, PNG, MP3, or MPEG4.

    Find the software your instructors are asking you to use for class in our campus computer labs and Central Piedmont Cloud — an essential 'must-have' on your laptop. Make an appointment, and we can get you set up to get access. Or go to Central Piedmont Cloud Login and use your student ID and password to gain access. 

  • Brightspace Student Training (LMS)

  • Digital Equity and Digital Literacy

    Digital Equity is a condition in which all individuals and communities have the information technology capacity needed for full participation in our society, democracy and economy.  Digital Equity is necessary for civic and cultural participation, employment, lifelong learning, and access to essential services.

    Digital Literacy is the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills (The American Library Association).

  • ePortfolio Assistance

    An ePortfolio is a collection of work (evidence) in an electronic format that showcases learning over time. When you think about your ePortfolio and the types of evidence that it contains, it is important to think carefully about its purpose and intended audience (Clemson University).

    An ePortfolio may contain all or some of the following:

    • files of various formats (text, pictures, video, etc.)
    • evidence related to courses taken, programs of study, etc.
    • writing samples (which might include several drafts to show development and improvement)
    • projects prepared for class or extracurricular activities
    • evidence of creativity and performance
    • evidence of extracurricular or co-curricular activities, including examples of leadership
    • evaluations, analysis,. and recommendations

  • File Management (Windows Desktop)

    The Digital Literacy Learning Space provides Windows, Macintosh (Mac), and Chromebook desktop training. File management skills give you the power to name, find, store, create, and organize files and folders. 

  • Northstar Online Assessments (Digital Literacy)

    Central Piedmont is an official Northstar testing/proctoring location. The Northstar self-directed digital skills assessment is not a placement test. It is a tool that helps you to understand your technology skill levels better and helps you focus on the areas where you might need technology training. You are not required to take Northstar assessments. Review Northstar Digital Literacy Assessment to learn how to start your assessment. 

  • Online Learning Introduction Training

    Central Piedmont online courses are a great, convenient way to further your education or earn a  degree while meeting the needs of your busy lifestyle. 

    Before taking online courses at Central Piedmont, you may need to complete the Online Learning Introduction training.

  • Specialty Software (Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCad, Computer Labs)

    Get help with department computer labs and other program-specific software and apps that your classes require, such as AutoCad, Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SSPS), and Adobe Creative Cloud.

    This is a collection of resources offered to students during technology training sessions in the Digital Literacy Learning Space. This resource page has helpful tools, links, and videos to help you 'learn how to learn about technology' in your classes. 

How to Make a Technology Training Appointment with the Digital Literacy Learning Space

We set up our training to meet you where you are and focus on the parts of the software that you don’t know, instead of requiring you to sit through a whole class.

  • To schedule your digital technology training appointment, select your desired campus from the following appointment scheduling links. 

    – Cato Campus appointments

    – Central Campus appointments

    – Harper Campus appointments

    – Harris Campus appointments

    – Levine Campus appointments

    – Merancas appointments

  • In the "appointment type" menu, select technology. Select your desired appointment date and time, then select continue.

  • You'll be taken to a page to confirm your appointment details. Fill in your name and email. (Central Piedmont students and employees should put their Central Piedmont email.)

    In the "What kind of technology help do you need" field, describe the software or skills you want training for.

  • Select confirm appointment. You will get a confirmation email to the email you used to set up the appointment.

About the Digital Literacy Learning Space

The Digital Literacy Learning Space provides student-centered technology training and digital literacy assessments to help students develop essential technology skills. We offer individual and group technology training appointments to discuss, review, and resolve our students' immediate needs. Referrals come to us via email, the Library appointment site, and walk-in appointments. Training sessions are offered face-to-face at each of our six campus libraries and online, using WebEx or Google Meet.

As a mini-course-based service, we provide student-directed, real-time sessions. This method helps student's master the course technologies required to complete an assignment. We also recommend training videos and supplemental resources when appropriate.
