eLocker Troubleshooting Guide

eLocker uses a technology called WebDAV to provide remote access to student's network folders via the web. WebDAV is an open standard which extends the http protocol to allow users to edit and manage files on remote web servers. WebDAV stands for Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning.

Since WebDAV is an open standard, it is implemented differently, or not at all, depending on the software configuration of the client computer. A good resource for information on WebDAV is available at http://webdav.org.

Several issues have been identified that can prevent certain users from connecting to WebDAV. Part of the problem is the wide variety of client configurations on student computers. Other issues are caused by the varied support offered by several different Microsoft products. A good overview of these issues, which is summarized below, is provided at http://www.atarex.com/services/support/webdav-msft.shtml
